CCDC Members recentlyreceived Emails containing letters of resignation from Brian Tweed, CCDC Chair, and Jeremy Dowell, CCDC Secretary. Copies of those letters follow. We also have received notice from Larry Bliss, CCDC Treasurer, that he is resigning as Treasurer, as he pursues a Senate seat from South Portland. Thanks to each for their valuable service.
Nominations will be taken to fill these three positions at the July 20th CCDC Meeting in Gorham, with elections following.

Dear Cumberland County Democratic Committee,
I very much regret to inform you that I am hereby resigning as Chair of the Cumberland County Democratic Committee (CCDC). It has truly been my honor and privilege to serve as your Chair these past six months. As a result of having accepted a summer legal internship with the Securities Division of the Secretary of the Commonwealth in Boston, Massachusetts, I feel that I am no longer able to effectively serve as your Chair during this most important election, due to my geographical location.
The time I have served as CCDC Chair has been a wonderful experience. It was indeed my pleasure working with the CCDC, Executive Committee of the CCDC, the MDP, Caucus of County Chairs, and Coordinated Campaign. Helping to organize the February 10th Municipal Caucus’ and the Cumberland County Caucus at the State Convention was an amazing and valuable experience that I shall never forget.
I look forward to working with Democrats in Portland, Cumberland County, Maine and beyond in the future. Should I ever be able to be of any assistance please do not hesitate to contact me. I wish you all the best in the future and look forward to seeing a Democrat as President in 2009, as well as a working majority in the Senate!

Needed: housing for field organizers

Over 2 dozen energized and experienced field organizers are coming--from across the state and across the country, one all the way from Alaska--to join the Maine Democratic Party's Coordinated Campaign field team.
These field organizers have committed themselves to working long hours for extremely modest pay. At the end of a long day they'll desire nothing more than a place to crash. Would you be willing to house a field organizer sometime between now and Election Day?
This year the Maine Democratic Party is building a grassroots campaign of unprecedented size and scope. Our 14 Regional Field Directors have been on the ground here in Maine for nearly two months now, activating volunteers and reaching out to voters in every county and town across the state. But it's a big job and they can't do it all themselves. The field organizers we are bringing on to help them have chosen to come to Maine over other states and races because they believe so strongly that Maine has the potential to change the direction of America.
Their needs aren't much, just whatever you can offer-a spare bed, a pull-out couch, or an air mattress. Your responsibilities to them do not go beyond that. Please support the hard work of our field staff recruits by providing them a place to go home to for the length of the campaign.

The Maine Democratic Party Coordinated Campaign is currently seeking applicants for the following position:
POSITION: Field Organizer
SALARY: $24,000 (Includes Health Insurance)
Field organizers will be responsible for building infrastructure and volunteer capacity in their regions to meet the goals and objectives of the Maine Democratic Party Coordinated Campaign (Victory 2008). The job entails executing a field plan to boost the performance of all Democrats on the ballot in his/her geographic area. Each field organizer will be required to meet aggressive voter contact goals through a combined use of phone banks, canvasses and events. He/she will report directly to their respective Regional Field Director. Field organizers will work with County Committees, Town Committees, Precinct and Neighborhood leaders recruited in 2007 and other local activists to build a strong network of grassroots volunteers to implement the '08 voter contact program.
Other parts of the job description may include but are not limited to:
Work with the party infrastructure (county, local, etc) to build long term capacity
Reengage and recruit activists to meet voter contact goals
Train activist to develop a tier of volunteer leadership
Conduct outreach to and maintain relationships with local allies and partner groups
Organize events, house parties and community actions in your counties
Complete weekly activity reports indicating progress towards goals
It is a measurable results-driven job in a fast paced and intense but rewarding atmosphere.

New Page on CCDC Web for Campaign Events
Dear Democratic Campaign Coordinator:
In an effort to help promote Democratic campaigns in Maine and Cumberland County during this election season, the Cumberland County Democratic Committee (CCDC) is initiating a new page on our website. This page will list notices of upcoming meetings, rallies, and other election events submitted by the campaigns of Democratic candidates for national office (President, Senate, and House of Representatives) and Cumberland County contests for statewide office (Maine Senate and House).
The CCDC does not endorse Democratic candidates in contested primary campaigns. However, we recognize the need those candidates have for support in extending the reach of their campaign publicity. Consequently, this webpage is offered to all of the above candidates who adhere to the following guidelines:
• Notices must be for events in Maine for candidates for the above offices. • Notices should be submitted at least 3 days prior to their intended appearance on the web page, in order to insure enough time for posting. Notices will be posted in chronological order by event. • Notices should be short, with date, headline announcement, place and time, a short description of not more than a sentence or two, and contact information. This will also insure that the mechanics of posting are manageable. For greater detail, we will link the announcement to the candidate’s own website. For example, a notice might be submitted reading: 1 December –“Elect John Jones” rally, Longfellow Square, Portland, 3-4 pm. The new “Campaign Events” web page will be located on the CCDC website, www.cumberlandcountydemocrats.org, immediately following the page listing “2008 Candidates.” The page will follow the same general format as other pages on the website, and be accessible by a blue button under the website heading. There will also be a hot-linked announcement of the new page on the home page.
The Webmaster will begin accepting notices immediately, at Webmaster@cumberlandcountydemocrats.org and the page will go live Nov. 1, 2007.
The CCDC hopes that this will assist all candidates in promoting their campaigns, and takes this opportunity to send best wishes to all.
